The science behind vascular laser treatment is based on the principle of selective photothermolysis. The Elite IQ Nd:YAG laser emits light at 1064nm, a near-infrared wavelength that penetrates deep into the dermis and is strongly absorbed by oxyhemoglobin and deoxyhemoglobin in blood. When this laser light enters an unwanted blood vessel, the hemoglobin absorbs the energy and converts it to heat, raising the temperature inside the vessel wall to the point of coagulation.
This thermal coagulation causes the vessel walls to collapse and seal shut, cutting off blood flow through the vessel.
