How it works
Plain microneedling creates thousands of controlled micro-injuries; the skin responds by sending fibroblasts to repair them, and fibroblasts make collagen. Potenza adds a second signal. The needles are insulated along their length and release radiofrequency energy only at the tip, so the dermis is heated to the range where existing collagen contracts and new collagen is triggered, while the surface stays protected. That is why it suits darker skin better than ablative lasers, and why one session does more than one session of needling alone.
Depth is set per zone, from about 0.5 mm around the eyes to 2.5 mm on the jawline and deeper for body scars. Potenza's Tiger Tip places needles at two alternating depths in a single pass, which matters for acne scars because the shallow and deep layers of a scar need remodelling at the same time.
The result is not instant. There is a little tightening within days as collagen contracts, then the real change arrives over 3–6 months as new collagen matures. That timeline is the same for every clinic and every device; anyone promising a transformation in a week is describing swelling.
What to expect
We look at your skin in person, ask about your history and medications, and screen for the contraindications below. You leave with a session count and a written price, or with an honest "this is not the right treatment for you".
Skin is cleansed and photographed, and a topical numbing cream goes on. Needle depth and energy are set zone by zone before the device touches your face.
Two to three passes with the Potenza handpiece, adjusting energy to how your skin responds. It feels like pressure and warmth with sharper moments on the forehead and upper lip. A soothing serum and barrier cream finish the session.
Days 1–2: red and warm, like a sunburn, with possible pinpoint marks. Days 3–5: fading redness, light flaking. Week 4: first texture change. Months 3–6: peak result. Next session at 4–6 weeks.
Suitability
The realistic outcome is significant, visible improvement: softer scars, tighter pores, firmer skin. Not flawless skin, and not a facelift. Results build over months, vary from person to person, and are maintained with a session every 6–12 months. If a peel, a laser or a referral would serve you better, we will say so.
Safety
Yes, when it is performed by a trained provider, at the right settings, on a suitable candidate. Here is the honest picture rather than a sales pitch. RF microneedling has a strong safety record across all skin tones, and because the energy is delivered below the surface through insulated needles it carries less risk of pigment change than ablative lasers, which is one reason it suits Fitzpatrick IV–VI skin.
We will not gloss over the risks. In 2025 the U.S. FDA issued a safety communication reminding the public that RF microneedling is not risk-free: when it is done by undertrained operators or at improper settings, reported complications have included burns, scarring, prolonged redness, pigment changes and, rarely, deeper tissue or nerve injury. The device matters far less than the training and judgment of the person holding it.
