Acne is gone but the scars stayed? The right treatment depends on the type of scar — pitted scars need collagen rebuilt, dark marks need pigment cleared. We match the tool to your scar with Potenza RF microneedling and PicoSure, at our Yonge & Steeles clinic. Every plan starts with a free skin assessment.
"Acne scars" is really several different problems, and they don't all respond to the same treatment. Getting the diagnosis right is most of the battle — so before any treatment, we look closely at what you're actually dealing with:
| Scar type | Best approach |
|---|---|
| Rolling & boxcar (pitted) | Potenza RF microneedling |
| Ice-pick (deep, narrow) | RF microneedling — sometimes plus other techniques (we'll advise/refer) |
| Flat dark marks (PIH) | PicoSure laser (pigment) |
| Flat red marks (PIE) | Time + SPF; sometimes vascular laser |
| Mixed texture + marks | Potenza + PicoSure, staged |
For depressed scars, you have to rebuild what was lost — collagen. Potenza RF microneedling drives fine needles into the dermis and delivers radiofrequency heat, triggering new collagen that lifts the floor of the scar from beneath while the needles break up tethered scar tissue. It's the workhorse of pitted-scar treatment, with results building over 3–6 months. Most plans run 3–6 sessions at $550 each (3-session package $1,400, about $466/session).

If your "scars" are actually flat brown marks left behind by breakouts (PIH), the issue is pigment, not texture — and PicoSure laser targets that, shattering excess melanin so your skin clears it. It also refines surface texture via the Focus Lens Array. PicoSure skin treatments start from $250/session. A quick honesty note: on deeper skin tones we treat pigment conservatively with a patch test, because the 755nm wavelength is melanin-absorbed.
The realistic goal of acne-scar treatment is significant, visible improvement — softer, shallower scars and more even tone — not flawless skin. Results vary from person to person and build gradually over months. Very deep ice-pick scarring sometimes needs techniques beyond microneedling (such as subcision or punch methods); if that's you, we'll say so at your assessment and refer where appropriate rather than overselling what we offer.
RF microneedling and PicoSure both have strong safety records when performed by a trained provider at appropriate settings. We won't gloss over risk, though: the U.S. FDA issued a 2025 safety communication noting that RF microneedling, used improperly, can cause burns, scarring and other complications — so provider training and conservative, customized settings matter far more than the device. Every plan here starts with a skin assessment that screens your skin type, history and contraindications (active acne flares, recent isotretinoin, certain implants, and others), and every session is performed by Natalia, our founder with 10+ years in medical aesthetics. It depends on the scar. Pitted, rolling and boxcar scars are a texture problem best treated by rebuilding collagen — Potenza RF microneedling is the main tool. Flat dark or red post-acne marks are a colour problem, where PicoSure laser or simply time and sun protection help more. Many people have a mix and do best with a combined plan, which we map out at a free assessment.
Most pitted acne scarring needs a series of 3–6 RF microneedling sessions spaced 4–6 weeks apart, with results building over 3–6 months as collagen remodels. Flat post-acne marks often respond in fewer PicoSure sessions. Deep or severe scarring can need more, and sometimes additional techniques.
Honestly, complete erasure isn't a realistic promise for most scarring — the goal is significant, visible improvement in depth and texture, not perfection. Results vary from person to person, and very deep ice-pick scars sometimes need techniques (like subcision or punch methods) beyond microneedling, which we'll flag at your assessment and refer if appropriate.
Potenza RF microneedling for scars is $550 per session (3-session package $1,400, about $466/session). PicoSure treatment for dark marks and texture starts from $250 per session. Your exact plan and an itemized quote are set at a free assessment, since cost depends on scar type, area and the number of sessions needed.
