One advanced picosecond laser, three things it does exceptionally well — fading tattoos, clearing pigmentation and dark spots, and smoothing acne scars and skin texture. At our Yonge & Steeles clinic, with a free skin assessment and free underground parking.
PicoSure Pro is a picosecond laser made by Cynosure — meaning it fires pulses measured in trillionths of a second. Our platform uses the 755nm alexandrite wavelength, the same technology that pioneered the modern picosecond category. Instead of relying on heat like older Q-switched lasers, it works through a photomechanical effect: an ultra-fast pressure wave that shatters tattoo ink and pigment into particles small enough for your body to clear naturally.
That speed is the whole point. Because the energy is delivered faster than heat can build up, PicoSure can break down stubborn targets with less thermal damage to the surrounding skin — which generally means fewer sessions and a lower risk of scarring or burns than heat-based lasers. The same picosecond energy, focused through a Focus Lens Array, also stimulates collagen for skin texture and acne-scar work.
Our PicoSure Pro is configured with the 755nm wavelength. It excels at black, blue, green, brown, purple and turquoise tattoo ink and at brown pigment — but we do not currently run a 532nm handpiece, so we don't treat red or orange tattoo ink. We'll always tell you honestly at your assessment whether your concern is a good fit.
Three distinct concerns, one platform. Each has its own dedicated page with full detail, pricing and FAQs — start here, then dive into the one that fits you.
Fade or fully remove unwanted ink — black and stubborn blues, greens and purples — with size-based pricing from $120/session. Great for cover-up fading too.
PicoSure Tattoo Removal →Clear sun spots, age spots and brown patches for a more even tone, from $300/session. Melasma is assessed carefully and individually.
PicoSure Pigmentation Treatment →The Focus Lens Array stimulates collagen to soften acne scars, refine pores and smooth texture, from $250/session.
PicoSure Skin Rejuvenation →The 755nm wavelength is absorbed strongly by black, blue and green ink — exactly the colours that older 1064nm Q-switched lasers struggle with — so PicoSure is one of the most effective options for multi-coloured and previously-treated tattoos. Because it shatters ink into finer particles, most tattoos clear in 3–10+ sessions versus 10–20+ on older machines, with less downtime between visits.
Pricing is by size: $120/session for tattoos up to 2×2 inches and $175/session up to 6×6 inches, with package savings and an exact quote at your free assessment. Planning a cover-up? Fading only needs 2–4 sessions. Full detail, before/afters and the science live on the dedicated page.
For sun spots, age spots and post-sun brown patches, PicoSure targets excess melanin and breaks it up so your skin can clear it — often with visible brightening in just a few sessions, from $300/session. It's one of the most popular treatments we offer for an uneven, sun-damaged complexion.
Melasma is different, and we're honest about it. Melasma is a chronic, hormonally-influenced condition that can rebound — or even darken — if treated too aggressively. Laser is not always the right first step, and it's never a permanent cure. We assess melasma individually, usually combine any laser work with strict sun protection and topical care, and will tell you plainly if you're not a good candidate.

Using the Focus Lens Array, PicoSure concentrates energy into microbeams that trigger collagen and elastin production deep in the skin — without breaking the surface. Over a series of sessions this softens pitted acne scars, refines enlarged pores and smooths overall texture, for a fresher, more even surface, from $250/session. It's a non-ablative approach, so downtime is minimal.
For deeper, pitted scarring we may instead recommend — or combine with — Potenza RF microneedling, which remodels collagen at a different depth. The best plan depends on your scar type and skin, which we map out at your assessment.

Picosecond beats nanosecond — but the device brand matters less than whether it's a true picosecond laser and who's operating it.
| Feature | PicoSure (picosecond) | Q-Switched (nanosecond) |
|---|---|---|
| Pulse duration | Trillionths of a second | Billionths of a second |
| Mechanism | Photomechanical (pressure) | Photothermal (heat) |
| Ink/pigment particles | Shattered finer | Larger fragments |
| Typical tattoo sessions | 3–10+ | 10–20+ |
| Downtime & scarring risk | Lower | Higher |

Two top-tier picosecond lasers with slightly different wavelengths and pulse durations. The better pick depends on your ink colours, pigment and skin type — not the badge on the machine.
IPL is light, not laser, and can be a good fit for diffuse sun damage — but it carries more risk on melasma and darker skin. We compare both for pigment honestly.
Different tools for different jobs: PicoSure (light) targets pigment and surface texture; RF microneedling (energy + needles) remodels deeper collagen for laxity and pitted scars.
Ranges only — your real number is set after we see your skin and concern in person. Results vary from person to person.
| Concern | Typical sessions | Spacing |
|---|---|---|
| Tattoo removal | 3–10+ (more for dense/coloured) | 6–8 weeks |
| Cover-up fading | 2–4 | 6–8 weeks |
| Sun spots & age spots | 1–3 for many spots | 4–6 weeks |
| Melasma | Individually assessed | Conservative, case-by-case |
| Acne scars & texture | 3–6 | 4–6 weeks |

Pigmentation & Dark Spots

View DetailsWe treat all Fitzpatrick skin types (I–VI), but the 755nm wavelength is absorbed more strongly by melanin — so darker skin (types V–VI) is treated with conservative settings, a patch test, and an experienced operator to keep the risk of pigment change low. Melasma and very dark skin are assessed especially carefully. We're at World on Yonge, 7191 Yonge St Unit 701-A, Markham (Yonge & Steeles) — minutes from Thornhill, Richmond Hill, Unionville and North York, with free underground parking. PicoSure Pro is a picosecond laser by Cynosure — it delivers ultra-short pulses measured in trillionths of a second. Our platform uses the 755nm alexandrite wavelength, which shatters tattoo ink and pigment with a photomechanical pressure wave rather than the heat of older lasers, so it can clear targets that resist traditional Q-switched systems with less thermal risk to surrounding skin.
We use PicoSure for three things: laser tattoo removal (from $120/session), pigmentation and dark spots such as sun spots and age spots (from $300/session), and acne scars, enlarged pores and skin texture using the Focus Lens Array (from $250/session). The right approach for your specific concern is confirmed at a free skin assessment.
It can help some people, but honestly, melasma is complex. It is a chronic, hormonally-driven condition that can rebound or even darken if treated too aggressively, so laser is not always the first choice and is never a permanent cure. We assess melasma carefully, often pair laser with sun protection and topical care, and will tell you honestly if you are not a good candidate.
We treat all Fitzpatrick skin types, but the 755nm wavelength is absorbed more strongly by melanin, so darker skin (types V–VI) needs conservative settings, a patch test, and an experienced operator to keep the risk of pigment change low. We tailor every treatment to your skin tone and confirm suitability at your free assessment.
Pricing depends on the concern and area: tattoo removal starts at $120/session, pigmentation and dark spots from $300/session, and acne-scar and skin-texture treatment from $250/session. Package savings are available, and you get an exact, locked-in quote at your free assessment.
Both are excellent picosecond lasers and either will out-perform an old Q-switched machine. They use slightly different wavelengths and pulse durations, so the better choice depends on your ink colours or pigment and your skin type. What matters far more than the brand name is the operator's skill and that the device is a true picosecond laser. See our full PicoSure vs PicoWay comparison for the details.
